Reactions to Miss California Carrie Prejean’s response to a question from Perez Hilton about gay marriage is making the public question if she’ll get to keep her crown.

Prejean surely had been coached on how to coast around beauty pageant questions, but when judge - Perez Hilton asked her near the end of this year’s Miss USA pageant about states legalizing gay marriage:

“Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”

Carrie Prejean slipped up when answered that:

“Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,” Carrie said to a mix of boos and applause. “No offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think that it should be between a man and a woman”

She spoke from her heart. She stated her personal belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman. A front-runner until then, she didn’t win.

Hilton said his question was relevant and that Prejean should have “left her politics and her religion out because Miss USA represents all Americans”

Prejean’s answer prompted Hilton, a blogger/celebrity watcher to publicly call Prejean “a dumb bitch.” Hilton later apologized. The openly gay Hilton is entitled to his opinion. His choice of adjectives weakens his credibility. It does, however, get his name in headlines and news stories that always good in the celebrity blog business.

The beauty queen’s response to a question from openly gay pageant judge and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has received more attention than the winner, Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton.
